KING OF THE WILD FRONTIER

Davy Crockett didn't die at the Alamo in 1836. For us Baby-Boomers he died yesterday. Fess Parker, who created the role for TV in 1954 and became THE symbol of strength and honor for us during our tender years is gone at 85. For those of us who grew up watching him, it is the saddest of days as another of our icons passes. Even Walt Disney wouldn't let us see Davy die on screen...no, the last we saw of him was as he fought off thousands of Mexicans, swinging Betsy, his trusted musket.

"Born on a mountaintop in Tennesee...greenest state in the land of the free
raised in the woods so he knew every tree...kilt him a B'ar...'fore he was only three

Davy...Davy Crockett...the Buckskin Pioneer."

RIP Fess Parker. And thanks.
